Interlibrary Loan Program
Looking for a book that the library doesn’t have? Don’t stress, use the Interlibrary Loan Program! Just come in and fill out a request form at the circulation desk, and the library will send out a book request to other libraries both near and far. In two to three weeks, depending on shipping time, your book will be ready for pick up.

FREE Services from the Kadena Base Library

• No fines on overdue materials.
• Free deliveries on Inter-Library Loan Program requests.
• Free computer use.
• Free books for deployed military members. Books may be checked out prior to deployment or unit members can mail books to deployed active duty members via care packages.

Kadena Base Library can help you learn a new language!
Here are two new language database programs to choose from.

Transparent Language
Transparent Language Online offers lessons for over 80 languages. The program is accessible via the Internet and will be available to USAF Active Duty, Air National Guard, Reservists, Retirees and their respective family members.  AF Civilian employees and contractors who are eligible to use a USAF library are also eligible.  All users must register in person at the Kadena Base Library and can then use it anywhere, anytime from home or the office. Transparent Language Online is a complete language-learning system. For more information on how to get started learning a language today, contact the Kadena Base Library.

Mango Languages
Mango Languages is an online language learning tool to learn conversational skills in selected languages and includes English for Japanese Speakers. With everyday dialog from native speakers, interactive lessons, and a unique intuitive teaching style you will be able to practice your language skills at work, home or anywhere. Learn Japanese, Chinese, Arabic, and other languages. You will need to register at the library and have a library card number to sign in to use the program. Once you register at the Library, log-in to Mango at http://libraries.mangolanguages.com/kadena/start

Rosetta Stone Online Language Learning Center
There are a total of 221 seats assigned to Kadena Base Library for learning languages the modern way through Rosetta Stone. When all 221 seats are taken we stop accepting new applications for seats. Around the first and fifteenth of each month, however, seats may open up through deactivation. Please come to the library or call us at 634-1502 to check if seats are available. Be aware, seats go quickly! Languages offered include Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin), Danish, Dutch, English (American & British), Filipino (Tagalog), French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Indonesian, Irish, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latin, Pashto, Persian (Farsi), Polish, Portuguese (Brazilian), Russian, Spanish (Latin American), Swahili, Swedish, Thai, Turkish, Vietnamese and Welsh.
All Active Duty and DoD Civilians and Spouses are now eligible to sign up.

Tumble Books
Tumble Book Library
A great way to share a children's book with your kids.  Tumble Books are animated and narrated books on your computer.  The site requires the Macromedia Flash plug-in, which can you download here for free.

Tumble Readables
Older readers can now enjoy the Tumble Books concept of reading along to reinforce reading skills while enjoying a great story. Selections include Early Readers, Chapter Books, Middle School Readers, YA/Teen, Children’s Classics and Shakespeare. Most are presented to read along with audio narration. 

Tumble Talking Books
These audio books for readers of all ages include works of fiction, non-fiction including general subjects, biography, history, politics, humor, self-help, education and science, as well as classics, children’s books, and works read in Spanish.


 Mrs. P’s Magic Library
Mrs. P. is an adventurous, slightly eccentric redheaded lady who brings Story Time to life with her video library of classic children’s stories.  There are also read-along options, animated games and an assortment of quirky, comic characters, so enjoy!


 


Children’s Book Corner
Are We There Yet?

The Great Courses DVD Collection
The Great Courses are a DVD series of college courses that are taught by experts in their fields. They are both for you personal enjoyment and a way to help you prepare for CLEP and DANTES tests. Each title has between 12 and 96 half hour lectures. DVDs will be available to check out in February.

The Base Library has added two new databases (Universal Class and One Click Digital) that offer new resources.
Visit the Base Library to register for your password and to get the website for these two new resources.

Universal class offers over 500 online courses in a wide range of subjects/levels, available 24/7, instructor led, self paced.  Some courses offer CEUs.  Some subject areas include: Computers and Technology, Personal Finance, Crafts and Hobbies, Homeschooling, Professional Development and many more. Universal Class courses are informational and designed to enhance students knowledge, increase skills and stimulate interest in a subject.  Universal Classes offers streaming video, website avatars, insightful instructional content, helpful tutors, and a social networking experience. OneClickdigital for Recorded Books provides access to downloadable MP3 and WMA audiobooks--all iPod compatible. It currently works best with Windows 7 and when transferring to iPhones, iPods or iPads. OneClickDigital is a new platform for audio books that were on MyiLibrary.  The collection contains ebooks which include the Dummie series, popular law, foreign language and Britannica world of learn. Just click on this BBC web site, aimed at new learners, for fun introductions to French, Spanish, German, Italian, Mandarin Chinese, Portuguese, Greek and even Urdu. Besides learning phrases in the languages themselves, you can sign up for weekly tips on how to speak a given language and even read about amusing blunders other learners made that confounded their foreign friends, so start today!


The Kadena Base Library is located in building 451, across from the Teen Center Millennium and next to Chapel Two.

The Kadena Base Library offers a computerized catalog and a great selection of fiction and nonfiction. We have a multitude of educational materials including online databases, DVDs, videos, audio disks and cassettes, CDs, periodicals and of course, books. Computers with Internet access are available for public use, as well as software for practicing standardized tests such as the SAT. Copying services and typewriters are also available. We even offer a special room just for children with a great selection of age-appropriate books. Whether you want to study, scan your favorite magazine, browse though the shelves for a new title, or complete the necessary research for a project, Kadena Base Library is an invaluable resource. Orientations are offered upon request for individuals, groups and families.
